Anna of Brooklyn (1958)

Anna (Gina Lollobrigida) is a young, beautiful Italian immigrant. She lives in Brooklyn but she returns to Italy and the town she was born in following the death of her husband. Anna moves in with her Aunt, and soon turns the heads of all the men in the town.

Terence Hill (Still going by his real name, Mario Girotti) plays Chicco. Although his role is small, it is integral to the plot. Chicco is in love with Rosie, a young girl who lives with Anna's Aunt. Aunt Carmela hopes to raise Rosie as a pious serious girl, but Rosie meets Chicco in secret every night. Chicco is seen coming out of Aunt Carmela's orchard and the townsfolk assume he has been visiting Anna. Confusion ensues!

The film was directed by Vittorio De Sica who also stars in the role of Don Luigi. Amusingly there is even a large scale fist fight (reminiscent of all great Terence & Bud films!) Anna of Brooklyn is by no means the greatest film in the world but it is amusing and easy to watch in its own way!
